Yatra to commence from March 28, 2015

        Berhampur Thakurani Yatra, 2015 edition will commence from 28^th March 2015. Following the tradition, announcement about the Yatra was made by Desi Behera, the organiser, at a public meeting convened for the purpose on 12^th March night by 10.30 PM. The meeting followed by the ceremony of fixing the Subha Khunta in front of his house at Desi Behera Street in Bada Bazar. The construction of temporary abode of Thakurani for the Yatra starts soon after placement of Subha Khunta.

Berhampur Thakurani Yatra usually starts either during the last week of March or the first week of April. While 2013 edition of Yatra started on 5^th April, 2011 edition was started on 28^th March and 2009 edition was started on 8^th April. In contemporary times Yatra continues for 21 days to 30 days. Last time Yatra 2013 was held for 25 days between 5^th April and 29^th April. Desi Behera approached the District Administration seeking permission for 30 days schedule for Yatra 2015. But the District Collector issued permission for 20 days. Desi Behera will again approach for extension of the Yatra.  In the past on several occasions, the administration have permitted for extension of Yatra for another week or so.
